Imagine a man. This man is sad, he’s lonely - and he’s depressed. He just lost his job, he has no family and in his mind, nothing to live for.
In fact this man is walking down the street. By himself and on the way to his house with one thing in mind, suicide. Let’s call him Roger.
You don’t know Roger. No one seems to know him or even notice him for that matter. He’s like a shadow in the dark - invisible. This is what he thinks.
As Roger walks, he reflects on his life… The only memories he recalls are those of hardship, disappointment and regret. He no longer remembers the good times. He’s forgotten when he first learned how to ride a bike. He’s forgotten his grandfather who was so proud..but not as proud as Roger himself. His first kiss, the hyper sensitivity of the first time he had sex, how ecstatic he was when he found out his wife was pregnant, all forgotten.
All these wonderful moments are lost to Roger. Thus Roger himself is lost.
You’re walking down the street on your way to lunch with a friend. You’re in a good mood.. You see a stranger, alone, walking towards you. He looks worn out and lowly, but mostly depressed. While you’re still looking, his gaze moves upward and your eyes meet. Behind the layer of despair you see something else. A good person.
Unknowingly a smile comes across your face, and before you know it a full blown grin. Something inside forces you to smile and you embrace it as it floods your face.
The man, the good person in despair, looks at you blankly at first. Slowly though..a smiles come over his face too. Before either of you know it you’re grinning as you walk past each other. Something is different about him. He’s standing taller than he was, his expression has changed, in fact he looks like someone different altogether. Maybe it’s the light you think to yourself. No..it’s not the light. His whole masquerade has changed from one simple smile - you’re smile.
Suddenly Roger starts to think a little differently about his life. His memories aren’t all bad afterall. In fact his most recent memory - the wild grin that came over a strangers face is definitely good. Suicide is no longer on his mind, and Roger walks home not with bad intentions but with intentions of change and good.
Roger goes on to go live a long, fulfilling life and he never forgets the stranger that smiled so gracefully as he walked by. The smile that changed Rogers life.
A smile is your ultimate weapon in expressing yourself. With a simple smile, you can display intent, confidence, sexuality, gratitude and numerous other emotions. So remember, a smile never smiled is a smile lost, and a lost smile does no one any good. What if the stranger never smiled at Roger? What if you were that stranger?
Attraction starts at first sight, and your smile can set the sparks flying right out of the gates.
